Malaysia’s protected areas are important sites for nature appreciation and environmental education. They are sought after sites for refreshing the spirit and for recreation for all ages. Well-designed, accurate and user-friendly information materials and maps are a must for any protected area, particularly those that are internationally renowned and attract visitors from around the world. The PA Financing Project is assisting the three focal sites to develop new infomaterials and to establish a system to ensure that funds are available to ensure that these materials are replenished periodically.
Trail Maps for Taman Negara NP
In 2015, new Trail Maps were produced for the popular Kuala Tahan gateway to Taman Negara. The maps, which have been produced in both in Bahasa Malaysia and English will be available for purchase at the Park Centre. Funds collected from the sale of the maps will be used for producing further education and awareness materials for the park. Simple trail maps have been produced for the lesser known entrances of Sungai Relau and Kuala Koh. These maps were presented to the park managers in Jan 2016 and will be made available at no charge for visitors to the park.
You can download copies of all three maps here.
Taman Negara Guide Book
A new Visitors’ Guide to Taman Negara will be launched in 2016. The Guide has been produced to provide an authoritative and up-to-date companion to all visitors to the Park. The activities and attractions described in the Guide will appeal to visitors of all ages and interests, and provides suggestions for both short or long stays. DWNP staff and members of the local community were actively consulted in developing the content for the book. The unique appeal of each of the Park’s four entrances is featured including many exceptional natural sites adjacent to the Park.
Beautifully presented, laden with helpful maps and illustrations, and useful tips and advice, the Guide is certain to enrich the experiences of all who venture within this magnificent protected area and sow interest for future visits and new discoveries. It will also serve as a useful reference to nature guides.
This Guide is expected to be available for sale at the Park Visitor Centre and other strategic locations. Funds from the sale of the Guide will go into a Trust account and be used to generate sustainable financing for the park’s education programme and to fund future reprints.
Support for the 75th Anniversary of Taman Negara NP
For the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of Taman Negara NP in 1939, several initiatives were undertaken by the PA Financing Project to help support DWNP in commemorating the event. A series of short video clips were produced to highlight the way Taman Negara appeals to different people in different ways and reminds the public that the park is a place where they can immerse themselves in nature and experience outdoor adventures.
Promotional video clips
With the theme “Nature’s Riches, Precious Memories”, the video clips encourage the public to reconnect with Taman Negara NP. The videos were screened at a photography exhibition held at Publika Solaris Dutamas during the KL Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) in October 2015. The public were invited to find out more about Taman Negara NP and several lucky visitors to the DWNP booth even won free accommodation at the park courtesy of Mutiara Damansara.
