Developing Management and Business Plans for PAs
Three focal sites in Peninsular Malaysia are being assisted in developing Management and Business Plans that address their specific management needs and challenges while establishing systems consistent with international Best Practice. The PAs are expected to be equipped for greater long term financial sustainability and may potentially serve as models that can be emulated by other PAs within the national PA network.
The Management and Business Plans are being prepared by NEPCon a Danish non-profit organization. Since the consultancy commenced in March 2015 extensive consultation has been made within the respective PA agencies to better understand their operations and to jointly explore strategies to improve management effectiveness and also financial capacity to fulfill PA management needs. Several stakeholder meetings and workshops were held by the multi-disciplinary consulting team and a major national workshop involving state and federal agencies across Malaysia was held to devise a standard template that could form a basis of a Management Plan for all PAs in the country.
In 2016, workshops to review the first draft of the Plans were conducted for Taman Negara NP, Endau Rompin NP and Royal Belum SP in January and May with the participation of officers from the respective PA agencies, state economic planning units, NGOs, academics, and community representatives. The inputs from participants at these workshops is being used to improve and finalize the draft for final submission later in the year.
